Raguel, in giving his daughter to
Tobiah, says to him: “Take your kinswoman; from now on you are her love, and
she is your beloved. She is yours today and ever after.” (Tobit 7:11).
Those who are married, note Raguel’s
message! Note it well! Husbands, you are “the love” of your wives. Wives, you
are your husband’s “beloved.” Paul says to you in 1 Cor 13: 4-7: “Love is
patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs, it is not
snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not prone to anger;
neither does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong,
but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love’s forbearance, to its
trust, its hope, its power to endure.”
This is also true for women/men
religious and for priests and single persons.
We are all called to love and be loved. The only difference is the
vocation within which we are called to become loving persons, beginning with loving
ourselves, growing in love with God and, from those sources of love, loving
others.
Which vocation, “decided in heaven,”
(Tobit 7:11) is the one God has chosen for you to realize your potential of
loving and being loved? May you have the
courage to make the choice that is right for you!
