Discernment: Facets of Discernment

Devotedly seeking to know the Will of God as revealed to us in the circumstances of our lives, in the Scriptures, in feedback from others, within the silence of our hearts, through the Church and the Commandments of God.
Interiorly silent before the Lord and in interpersonal relationship, listening for God’s voice, His direction, His will to be revealed.
Surrendering our plans and our ways to the plans and the ways of the Lord recognized as we sit quietly at the feet of the Lord, making our own decisions after doing our research into the issue we are considering.
Entering into the depths of our hearts, being silent before God in prayer, as we cling to our desire to follow God’s ways, not giving into the pressure of others to abandon what we know God is asking of us.
Remembering to seek God’s counsel and wisdom in all of our decisions.
Never wavering  in our wanting to bring our wills into harmony with the will of God, revealed to us in solitude, in seeking and being open to others' feedback, in reflecting on the Scriptures, in listening to the Spirit whispering to us in the depth of our hearts.
Meeting Jesus in the events of our lives, speaking to us through our feelings, in our thoughts and through our interaction with “angels” that God sends to help us in our confusion, in our doubts, in our weakened faith.
Engaging the Spirit to help us know in which state in life we will become the best version of ourselves: marriage, single life, priesthood or religious life.
Not basing our decision on the pressures of social media to seek only pleasure, profit, prestige and power but
To follow the way modeled for us by Jesus: obedience to the Father, giving one’s all for the good of others, being there for others in their need for healing, comfort, forgiveness, reconciliation and a turning over our lives to build up the Kingdom of love.

Discernment Challenges

Discovering what God’s will is for me.
Inwarding seeking God’s will above all.
Setting my will aside in favor of what God is asking of me.
Candidly wanting to know the path upon which God wants me to walk.
Eearnestly being alert to when what I want is not what God wants of me.
Resting quietly with God or with God’s word, waiting for God to reveal His will to me.
Never running ahead of God, doing it my way because I got tired waiting upon God’
Mindfully, tuning in to the Spirit working within me and listening for His voice.
Ever more and more reconciling my will to the will of God and doing so by wrestling with God in the desert of my being: entering my confusion, facing my fears, confronting my pride and self-will in the quiet of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, in the solitude of a church or of my room with all equipment silenced, listening to God in the stillness. He is at work!
Never running away from God intentionally and when aware of doing so coming back to Him in the quiet of my heart and asking for His help to bring my will into harmony with His.
Thoroughly researching the options God places before me in considering the decisions I need to make to be in harmony with the will of God concerning my vocation in life, my career choices or any other serious decision I need to me.
